UPJPIA's First Intercollegiate Finance Congress
a finance case analysis competition


Mechanics:


1. Form a team of 3-5 members. Students from any Metro Manila university who have taken at least one finance or accounting- related subject are eligible to join.


2. Fill out the registration form for your team. You may download the template from www.upjpia.net or contact any UPJPIA E&R officer. Send it to upjpia_eandr@ yahoo.com.


3. Download the case. UPJPIA E&R will send the case to your email addresses together with the guidelines and criteria to be used in the competition. Send your three-page case analysis to upjpia_eandr@ yahoo.com on or before February 14, 2008.


4. Attend the FinCon Seminar on February 14 (1-5pm). All registered teams are required to participate in a seminar workshop on February 14, 2008. The top 5 teams from the semi- final competition will also be announced during this event.


5. Get your team ready for the finals on February 21 (1-5pm)! The top 5 teams will be given a week to work on the final case distributed during the seminar. Each team will present their solutions to a panel of judges on this date.

Prizes:

1st prize- P10,000

2nd prize- P7,500

3rd prize- P5,000

Duration of each presentation:

Each team will be given a maximum of 15 minutes to present their case solutions to the panel of judges. Another 10 minutes will be allotted for the question and answer portion, where each team will defend their answers and/or assumptions to the judges.

Judging criteria:

1. Recommendations/case solutions (20%)
Bases for judging: Feasibility, Relevance to context

2. Overall presentation (20%)
Bases for judging: Stage presence, Visuals

3. Analysis and justification (40%)
Bases for judging: Quality of assumptions, Accuracy of quantitative solutions, Consideration of qualitative factors, Methodology used

4. Q&A (20%)
Bases for judging: Soundness of arguments, Group effort

Panel of Judges:
1. Mr. Mark Yu- President of JFINEX, CFO of Seaoil
2. Partner from KPMG, one of the big four accounting firms
3. Mr. Dave Borja - Most outstanding financial instructor of the year
